Cubic Defence New Zealand Limited was formed in 1968, at a time when some of the most significant technological breakthroughs developments in electronics, microprocessors, laser technology and fibre optics were taking place.

From the time of its conception CDNZ recognised that future success lay in the innovative use of the evolving new technology. The fledging company as a priority invested heavily in research and development and created a broad-spectrum R&D division that incorporates, electronics, laser, radio, GPS, software engineering, mechanical design and documentation departments.

CDNZ's earliest successes were in the development and manufacture of precision instruments for use in monitoring performance in a wide number of applications. CDNZ's AIS instruments are used throughout Australasia, the Pacific, Asia and Europe in applications such as power generation, irrigation, marine, and heavy equipment.

The company utilised its resources to create a unique weapons system for military training known as IWESS (Infantry Weapons Effects Simulation System). The CDNZ IWESS system has been accepted as the best solution by military training experts in Australasia, South East Asia, Europe and America.

In addition to its R&D and manufacturing divisions, CDNZ maintains in-house TELARC registered environmental laboratories for quality assurance purposes and to test manufactured products. CDNZ manufactures to ISO 9001 quality assurance standards.

CDNZ provides comprehensive worldwide consultancy to government institutions and organisations and a training service to enable them to obtain the most effective results from the new technology.
